LHASA, May 17 (Xinhua) -- Southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region plans to transmit 2 billion kWh of clean electricity to 16 other provincial-level regions in China this year, the regional power company said Friday. The State Grid Xizang Electric Power Company said the clean energy is expected to help China's central and eastern regions reduce the emission of carbon dioxide by 1.6 million tonnes and sulfur dioxide by 50,000 tonnes, respectively. Boasting abundant solar, hydraulic and wind power resources, Xizang began sending electricity to other provincial-level regions for the first time in 2015. As of 2023, the region had delivered more than 13.9 billion kWh of clean energy, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 20.64 million tonnes, and creating economic benefits of about 3.7 billion yuan (about 520.8 million U.S. dollars).
